In 2024, Quang Ninh will focus on implementing a project to develop high-end island tourism in Bai Tu Long Bay, Van Don, and Co To in connection with Ha Long Bay.

On March 12, at the working session with the Standing Committee of Co To District Party Committee and the Standing Committee of Van Don District Party Committee, the leaders of the Standing Committee of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee emphasized that Van Don and Co To must both identify great opportunities, when they have increasingly synchronous and modern socio-economic infrastructure, when people's lives have been greatly improved compared to before, and the two island districts are both located in the eastern dynamic region of the province. In particular, the central urban area of ​​Van Don district is the center of the region. Van Don Economic Zone is the breakthrough, the development center of the region, the province and the key economy of the North. Van Don and Co To are one of the new gateways to the sea of ​​the northern mountainous region...

Both localities must identify the largest and most valuable resources as marine and island resources, forest resources, land, tourism resources and the strength of human cultural values; focus on implementing the project to develop high-end marine and island tourism in Bai Tu Long Bay, Van Don, Co To in association with Ha Long Bay. Continue to improve the quality of life of the people with increasingly high per capita income.

For Co To island district, in 2023, tourism and services will continue to have remarkable development and affirm themselves as a key economic sector, the district will welcome over 320,000 visitors. Many new tourism products will be put into operation; the image of the land and people of Co To as gentle, friendly and hospitable is increasingly spreading.

The district has launched a commercial seaplane flight route from Co To to Tuan Chau; extended the time to receive visitors during the year; created new jobs and livelihoods for the people. The project of Co To district without plastic waste has come into life, gradually changing the awareness of the people and tourists about environmental protection.

Regarding Van Don island district, the tourism, trade and service sectors continue to maintain high growth momentum. The district has basically completed the dossier for recognition of advanced new rural areas in 2023. Planning, land, environmental resources, and digital transformation have been promoted; the conversion of styrofoam in aquaculture activities to materials suitable to local standards in the district has been basically completed.
